This is a very small village set on the river North of Luang Prabang - you can either get the boat all the way (7hours) or the bus (3.5hours). If you take he bus, then you have to transfer to a small boat for 30 mins before arriving as it is only accessible by river.
The village has no electricity - they run from generators and after 10pm you will need a torch to get around as they all go out.
The roads are made of mud and everything is very basic - a great experience and nice setting by the river.

This so far is the cheapest and best value place I have ever stayed in - yes only $1US!! The room was large, with a big double bed, large balcony at the front with a hammock over looking the river and hills.

Trek to Mounatin Top Village
|
We signed up for a tour / trek which would take us through the fields, rivers and forests to the top of a mountain where a village was.
The overall trek was a full day, steep in some places, but not too strenuous.
Along the way there are picturesque rice fields, hills, burnt forests etc.
The village we went to was self sufficient - there were loads of animals running around - plenty of puppies, but no full grown dogs - yes you guessed it usually was on he plate before it reached the age of 2.
We slept in the top of a large hut on the floor and the locals gave us some home brewed Lao Lao rice wine which has quite a kick to it.
Somehow generally walking around the village the locals seemed defensive and fairly unfriendly
