Sipidan Island is one of the top dive sites in the world. I did 3 dives there and it was absolutely amazing! We saw loads of white tip sharks (2metres+) and turtles were abundant - and very friendly. We also saw moray eels, trigger fish, clown fish and loads of beautifully unspoilt coral. Basically Sipidan Island is like a pinnacle, so all round the island the water is about 1-2 meters deep and then drops off an underwater cliff down to 600metres deep. It is quite an experience to go off the 'drop off', however 'Barracuda Point' is well know as the best site there and proved to be amazing on the day we went. Alot of people are put off of the expense of diving on Sipidan - this is because all of the dive companies in KK will tell you that it costs 450RM a night and it is booked out - Do Not Listen To Them. Go to Semporna and you can easily find many companies willing to take you out on a day trip such as Uncle Chang's (right next to Dragon Inn and if you speak to them they can get you a discount at Dragon Inn and on Bus Tickets) for 220RM for 2 dives or 270RM for 3 dives :- Uncle Chang's PO Box 246, 91308 Semporna, Sabah Tel - (6) 089-781002 Uncle Chang's runs an excellent operation with very friendly and knowledgable staff. Also take note that Uncle Chang's are allowed to land on Sipidan Island so when you are resting between dives you are able to enjoy a drink on the island and enjoy the paradise island feel. |
