Mae Sai + Myanmar (Formerly Burma) Border Crossing
Town Accomodation Things To Do

The main reason we went up to Mae Sai was to do a border crossing into Myanmar for the day - to get an extra 30 days on ou Thai Visa.

The whole process was pretty hassle free and there is a good sized cheap market in Myanmar, good for CDs, knives, gameboy games etc etc.

I have since been back to get another 30 days extensio and when crossing back to Thailand the customs officers asked me to show them 10,000 baht (a new rule). They let me go to a cash machine in Thailand while they kept my passport, then when I returned with the money they didn't even take it and check the amount!

There is a good night market in Mae Sai which sells a good selection of warm clothes - fleeces etc and also some very god cheap food stalls. One of the best things I have eaten in Thailand is from here; mussels, egg, soy milk and bean sprouts all fried together and served in the small pan on a wooden plate - tastes amazing - costs only 20 baht.

If doing a border corossing you don't need burmese money, they take thai baht everywhere.

We had a go only the pretty well kept driving range over in Myanmar with Dave showing off!
