Perhentian Islands - Kecil (Small Island)
Town Accomodation Things To Do

Paradise! Never have I seen beaches with sand so white and fine and water so clear and warm.

On Long Beach, it really is like looking at a postcard as soon as you come out of your apartment and walk to the beach.

Coral Beach - on the other side of the island butless than 10 mins walk is also stunning and has much better snorkelling.

This was the first Island I went to, but everyone I met who has been to Tioman Island and the Islands in Thailand has said that this was better and even more like a paradise island.

Costs RM30 to get to by speed boat.

Name Symphony

Price per person RM 20 for a basic chalet with no fan or toilet
Good Points Very Friendly, Great Cheap Restaurant, Very Close to the nicest section of beach
Bad Points Very dirty and smelly toilets and showers, Very basic room
Rating 5/10
Comments Situated on Long Beach, great staff with a laid back attitude. However the toilets really are disgusting, so bad that I had to move after 3 days.

Although I do not recommend staying here, definately go here for food, the menu is huge and the food very good and cheap. It is also right on the nicest section of beach on the island, see pic below of me sitting in the restaurant.

Also see below on the menu is a 'no names plain' we asked but they couldn't explain it too us, so of course we had to order it. It is basically plain fritters made with onion, flour, egg etc and doesn't really taste of much.

Price per person RM 30 for a chalet with fan and on-suite bathroom
Good Points Nice Chalets, Good Value
Bad Points Unfriendly Staff, Staff Try To Rip You Off (he tried to charge me RM2 just to check if the ferry was coming that day - i went next door and the bloke checked for free for me)
Rating 7/10 Staff let the rating down
Comments Situated on Coral Beach, very close to the beach. Very comfortable chalets with big double bed and a balcony.

I decided to move here as the bathroom facilities at Symphony were shocking. It was still only less than 10mins walk to Long Beach.
Things To Do

Diving - For 2 dives RM140 - 20GBP(Long Beach) or RM110 - 15GBP(Coral Beach)

Amazing diving here. There at least 20 sites to chose from (see below). The diving is cheaper if you walk 10 mins across to Coral Beach - I didn't know this until afterwards though.

I went diving in the morning to 'Temple of the Sea' which was fantastic. We saw bamboo sharks, a coral sea snake, clown fish, porcupine fish, moray eels and the coral was excellent.

In the afternoon I went diving on 'Sugar Wreck' - my first wreck dive. The visibility was about 5m at the top and less than 2m at the bottom because the wreck sits in sand, but the experience was still very good. The wreck is very much intact as it is only 5 years old, so it still looks very much like a ship.

The diving here is the best I have done, alot better than when I was at the Great Barrier Reef even and at a fraction of the cost.

Snorkelling Trip - RM40 (5.50GBP) (RM35 if you have your own mask)

Unbelievably this was better than both of the dives I did!

Do the trip with Palm Tree Cafe as the guy takes you to an extra place - an amazing beach, better than Long Beach which he calles 'quiet beach'.

The trip goes to 5 different snorkelling places, one of which (turtle bay) you are guaranteed to see turtles and (shark point) wher you are guaranteed to see black tip sharks - just seeing these sharks has made my whole trip travelling so far.

An all round a brilliant day and extremely good value for money

Kayak Around The Island - RM35 (5GBP) For a 2 person kayak for the day

All the time I was there I was trying to find someone to do this with and eventually I met 3 irish girls who were up for it.

Aparently you can kayak around the whole island in 4 hours - we took about 9! But we did stop at almost every beach and loads of stops to do snorkellin and a 2 hour lunch at Coral Beach.

Was well tiring, but well worth it to see some of the deserted beaches and nice snorkelling areas.

The big monster below is a monitor lizard that we saw at D-Lagoon.
